Army Confirms Death of Officer Attacked by Mentally Unstable Man

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of a soldier attacked by a mentally unstable man while on security duty in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos. A trending clip heightened public concern after showing the aftermath of the confrontation.

According to military authorities, the attacker overpowered the soldier during an attempt to calm a disorderly situation and used a heavy log to inflict fatal injuries. Troops at the scene quickly neutralised the man and recovered the soldier’s weapon.

The victim was taken to Ikorodu General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead before being buried according to Islamic rites. The Army has begun a full investigation and urged the public to avoid circulating speculative information as the inquiry proceeds.
