Akoma Leads New Ubeji Youth Exco, Security Tops Agenda
The Ubeji community in Warri-South Local Government Area of Delta State has inaugurated a new youth executive council, with a renewed focus on tackling insecurity, unemployment, and drug abuse.
The swearing-in ceremony held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at the Ubeji Community Town Hall, had in attendance community leaders, youth representatives, and residents.
In an interview with Warri Sentinel, the newly elected youth president, Harrison Akoma, identified security as his administration’s top priority.
The leadership plans to establish 24-hour security checkpoints across all streets in the community, in collaboration with local vigilante groups and security agencies. This initiative is aimed at curbing criminal activity and restoring a sense of safety among residents.
“We will also engage with the various Landlord Association across our community to understand their security needs and address any existing gaps”
Addressing the issue of youth unemployment, Akoma announced plans to partner with companies and organisations operating in and around the Ubeji area. These partnerships are expected to facilitate employment opportunities and support vocational training and skill acquisition programmes targeted at unemployed youth.
“Very soon, no young person will have a reason to loiter at the gates; everyone will have access to meaningful skills and life-changing opportunities” Akoma said.

The new leadership also read the riot act against drug abuse. Akoma disclosed that measures are being introduced to combat the sale and use of hard drugs within the community, which he stressed has become a growing concern among young people.
