Air Peace Suspends Operations Amid NiMet Strike

Air Peace has suspended all domestic flights following a nationwide strike by staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), causing major disruptions across key airports.

The airline, in a statement released on Wednesday, said it was forced to ground operations due to the unavailability of vital weather information typically provided by NiMet. Flights in and out of Lagos, Abuja, and Kano have been affected, with many passengers stranded.

NiMet employees began an indefinite strike over poor wages and working conditions, holding protests at several airports. Demonstrators held placards reading “No weather, no flight; fly at your own risk,” as they blocked parts of the terminals.

A senior NiMet official, who asked not to be named, criticised the unions for embarking on strike despite progress in negotiations.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, is expected to meet with union leaders on Thursday in an attempt to resolve the impasse.

Air Peace said it is working with authorities to limit the impact on passengers and will share updates as the situation develops. NiMet has not yet released an official statement. @⁨Itse Mirabel⁩
