FG Considers Concession for Enugu Airport

The federal government is considering handing over the management of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu to a private company, but no agreement has been reached.

In a statement by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, on Monday, April 21, he described reports claiming a fixed concession period has been agreed are “false and misleading”.

He said proposals from interested concessionaires are still under review and no decision has been made on the length of the concession.

Moshood explained that concessioning five major airports is part of a broader effort to boost standards and reduce government spending, as many airports are currently operating at a loss.

The review process, he said, involves several layers of evaluation and will require approval from the Federal Executive Council.

He also stressed that aviation unions have been included in the discussions to ensure transparency.
