ADC Crisis Deepens as Court Nullifies Adamawa Congresses Ahead of INEC Deadline
The African Democratic Congress is facing a major setback in Adamawa State following a High Court ruling in Yola that voided its recent state congresses, tightening pressure on the party ahead of a crucial deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Justice Isah Ahmed, who delivered the judgment, held that the exercise breached provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution, rendering the outcome invalid. The decision followed a suit filed by the state chairman, Comrade Shehu Yohanna, who challenged the legitimacy of the process over alleged procedural violations.
The development underscores widening cracks within the party’s structure in Adamawa, long regarded as a political base of Atiku Abubakar. Internal disagreements and legal battles have continued to erode cohesion, leaving the party grappling with uncertainty over its leadership framework.
The situation has been compounded by a string of high-profile defections, including Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani and Ishaku Abbo. With INEC’s compliance window closing in, the ADC now faces the task of resolving its internal disputes while racing to meet regulatory obligations.
