DSCTDA Clears Illegal Structures in Asaba
Authorities in Delta State have commenced a wide-ranging operation to dismantle illegal roadside structures and curb street trading in Asaba, as part of renewed efforts to improve sanitation, traffic flow and urban order. The enforcement is being coordinated by the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA).
Major flashpoints targeted include Akpu Junction, Marble Hill Junction, Maryam Babangida Way, Okpanam Road, Ibusa Road, the Nnebisi Road corridor and areas around Ogbeogonogo Market. Officials say makeshift stalls and encroachments had obstructed walkways, drainage systems and road setbacks, posing risks to motorists and pedestrians.
Director-General Mr. Patrick Ukah stated that the exercise is aimed at reclaiming public spaces and enforcing existing regulations, urging traders affected by the operation to relocate to approved markets. Monitoring teams have also been deployed to prevent a return of illegal structures.
In addition to enforcement, the agency has intensified sanitation across major routes, including the Mammy Market and Traffic Light axis. The DSCTDA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly capital city, calling on residents to support environmental compliance efforts.
