Soludo Celebrates End of Monday Sit-At-Home at Onitsha Market
Commercial life returned to the Onitsha Main Market on Monday as traders opened for business, ending a weekly shutdown that had lingered for nearly five years and slowed one of West Africa’s busiest trading hubs.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo welcomed the development, saying the decision by traders to resume activities signalled a renewed confidence in public order and economic recovery. He noted that the market recorded strong attendance, with shops open and transactions running through the day.
According to the governor, the return of Monday trading marks a turning point for Anambra State, cutting off a practice that drained productivity and income. He expressed optimism that the move would strengthen economic growth and restore normal business rhythms across the state.
