Bayelsa Holds Day of Tribute for Late Deputy Gov Ewhrudjakpo

Bayelsa State will on Wednesday hold a Day of Tribute in honour of the late Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, as part of his four-day funeral programme.

The event will take place at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, Yenagoa.

It follows sporting activities held on Tuesday at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex to recognise Ewhrudjakpo’s contributions to sports development in the state.

The activities included a novelty football match between Bayelsa Queens and a Bayelsa State All-Stars team, which ended in a goalless draw, as well as athletics, tug-of-war, traditional wrestling and para-wrestling.

Ewhrudjakpo supervised the Ministry of Sports until his death on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60.
