RMAFC Maps Disputed Oil Wells to Resolve Revenue Issues in Niger Delta
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has kicked off a critical initiative to resolve disputes over oil and gas well ownership in the Niger Delta. The commission, in collaboration with several national agencies, is mapping out disputed wells’ coordinates in a bid to clear up boundary and ownership issues between oil-producing communities.
RMAFC Chairman Dr. Mohammed Shehu announced the launch of the mapping project, which will be carried out by an Inter-Agency Technical Committee (IATC) comprising experts from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF), and the National Boundary Commission (NBC). The process aims to ensure fairness in the allocation of revenue, including the 13 percent derivation fund that benefits oil-producing states.
The effort follows a verification process begun in 2025 after concerns from affected states. Shehu emphasized that the exercise is crucial for ensuring producing states receive their fair share of revenue. He urged active participation from representatives of affected states to ensure transparency and equitable results.
Shehu also reassured stakeholders of the commission’s neutrality in the process, reiterating that this initiative is a step toward greater transparency in managing Nigeria’s oil and gas revenue.
