Bomadi Councillors Flee Arrest as Impeachment Turns Sour

At least 15 councillors of Bomadi Local Government Area in Delta State have reportedly gone off the radar as fear spreads over arrests linked to an impeachment process against the council chairman.

The situation followed the reported arrest of Hon. Edougha Felix on Tuesday and the detention of the wife of Hon. Muturu Ebimene after security operatives failed to locate her husband at their residence. The actions are believed to be connected to the impeachment notice recently endorsed by members of the legislative arm against Chairman Dagidi Andaye.

Deputy Leader of the council legislature, Hon. Barbar Harris, alleged that soldiers, Civil Defence operatives and vigilante groups were deployed on the chairman’s orders to track down councillors backing the impeachment. He claimed that security operatives have been moving through homes and public spaces, forcing lawmakers to seek safety in undisclosed locations.

Calling the development a threat to local democracy, Hon. Barbar appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other key political actors to step in, insisting that the impeachment process complied with constitutional provisions. Efforts to reach the council chairman for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
