Police Foil Kidnap Plot in Upper Agbarho, Recover Arms
The Delta State Police Command has foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt in Upper Agbarho after a confrontation between security operatives and armed suspects forced the gang to flee. The incident followed intelligence reports pointing to criminal activity along a bush path in the area.
Police operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, working with local vigilantes, moved in on the suspects late Saturday night, January 11, 2026. The operation targeted an uncompleted building believed to be serving as a hideout for the group.
On arrival at the location around 9:35 p.m., the suspects reportedly opened fire on the security team. The operatives returned fire, overpowering the gang and compelling them to abandon the building and escape into nearby bushes, with indications that some may have been injured.
A search of the area led to the recovery of an FNC rifle with a live round, a pump-action shotgun loaded with cartridges, and other items believed to be connected to the suspects’ activities. Food supplies and personal effects found at the scene suggested the location was actively used by the group.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, commended the operatives for acting swiftly on intelligence and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to combat kidnapping and violent crime across the state. He also called on residents to continue supporting the police with credible information as efforts to track down the fleeing suspects intensify.
