Obi calls for people-centered governance in Ughelli

Peter Obi has renewed his call for people-focused leadership, saying Nigeria’s progress depends largely on the quality of those entrusted with public authority. He made the remarks on Sunday in Ughelli, Delta State, while attending the 2026 Prayer Convocation of the Anglican Diocese of Ughelli.

The former Anambra State governor stressed that weak governance and poor prioritisation have continued to deepen poverty, undermine education and strain the economy. He urged leaders to embrace accountability, compassion and prudent management of public resources in order to improve the lives of citizens.

Obi also called for sustained prayers for national renewal as the country edges toward another election season, while encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful and demand integrity from public office holders.
