Guwor Defends ₦65.5bn Increase in Delta’s 2026 Budget

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has explained that the increase in the 2026 Appropriation Law from ₦1.664 trillion to ₦1.729 trillion was based on the need to address critical development gaps across the state.

Guwor said lawmakers conducted a detailed sector-by-sector review and consultations before approving the additional ₦65.5 billion. He noted that a ₦10 billion allocation for the newly enacted Social Investment Programme contributed significantly to the increase, alongside adjustments in other key sectors.

He assured that the Assembly would enforce strict oversight of ministries, departments and agencies to ensure full implementation of the budget in line with legislative approval.
