A fire outbreak swept through Afiesere Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday morning, December 17, destroying a shop and damaging part of a nearby building before being contained.
Residents said the fire started unexpectedly, with thick smoke and flames quickly rising from the affected area and spreading to zinc-roofed structures, triggering panic among locals.
The incident attracted many onlookers as the flames threatened to extend to other properties, heightening concerns of wider destruction.
In the absence of an immediate firefighting response, community members mobilised and used buckets of water and other makeshift tools to put out the fire. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the incident has yet to be determined as affected residents assess the extent of their losses.
