DSS Frees NLC President Joe Ajaero After 15-Hour Interrogation
The Department of State Services (DSS) released Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), late Monday night following his arrest earlier that day.
Mr. Ajaero said he was freed shortly after 11 p.m., just ahead of a midnight deadline set by organized labor in protest of his detention. He added that he was questioned for roughly 15 hours after being taken into custody at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 7 a.m.
The DSS, however, seized his passport, preventing him from attending the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which begins today.
