Ugborodo Group Rejects Gbaramatu Claims Over Sahara Land
The Ugborodo Graduates Association (UGA) has countered claims from the Gbaramatu Female Graduates Association concerning the ownership of Sahara. The group leaders insist the land belongs to the Itsekiri people of Ugborodo and forms part of their ancestral territory.
In a statement signed by Comrade Dogho Besidone and Onogho Gbubemi, the association argued that no community known as “Sarabubor” exists, adding that the name is merely a misrepresentation of Sahara. They pointed to long-standing historical records and uninterrupted usage by Ugborodo as evidence of ownership.
The group accused some Gbaramatu elements of repeatedly extending claims to various Itsekiri communities, citing past disputes involving Okerenghigho, Omidudun, Kantu and Ijaghala. They warned that any renewed attempt to take over Sahara would be firmly resisted.
UGA urged the Gbaramatu group to seek proper historical guidance from their elders to avoid further tension. The association maintained that Sahara has always been and will remain an Ugborodo land.
