HOSTCOM Reopens Secretariat, Hails Oborevwori’s Support
Oil-producing communities in Delta State have formally reopened their remodeled secretariat in Uvwie Local Government Area, reaffirming support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM), Delta chapter, said the upgraded facility would serve as a hub for coordinating activities across the six oil-bearing ethnic nationalities — Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Isoko, Ndokwa and Ika. At the inauguration, State Chairman Sunday Enujeke credited the project to the backing of the governor, Senator Okowa, and the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC). He said the development silenced critics who questioned his administration’s capacity to reposition HOSTCOM.
HOSTCOM leaders stressed that the new Secretariat goes beyond brick and mortar, representing unity, progress and renewed commitment to the welfare of host communities. Secretary Joseph Lamienghan said the building would open space for more effective dialogue with government and stakeholders.
Leaders of the six ethnic blocs praised the gesture, recalling earlier initiatives such as the donation of vehicles to ethnic chairmen as evidence of stronger collaboration. They pledged continued loyalty to Governor Oborevwori’s administration and DESOPADEC, stressing that peace and cooperation remain vital in advancing the interests of oil-bearing communities in Delta State.
