Police Kill Four Suspected Kidnappers in Abraka After DELSU Protests

Police in Delta State have killed four suspected kidnappers in Abraka, just days after residents staged a protest over rising insecurity in the area.

Officers from the Abraka Police Division, working with local hunters, recovered an AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine during the operation. The bodies of the suspects were displayed at the station, drawing large crowds of onlookers.

The killings come 48 hours after residents protested against frequent abductions and killings by suspected herdsmen. Human Rights activist Godstime Ukuanovwe said the crackdown followed public pressure.

“Our protest yielded results. Local vigilantes killed the kidnappers and recovered an AK-47,” he told

Ukuanovwe, however, criticised the military’s violent response to the peaceful demonstration, claiming soldiers damaged and seized his vehicle during the protest.

He also condemned the state government’s silence. “We protested against insecurity, yet the governor sent the military against us instead of the kidnappers,” he said.

Ukuanovwe warned of more protests unless authorities deliver justice, transparency, and security.
