Oborevwori Calls Security Meeting with Traditional Rulers and LG Chairmen

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is set to meet with traditional rulers and local government chairmen from across the state in a high-level security stakeholders’ meeting scheduled to hold in Asaba on Thursday, 5 June 2025.

The meeting is part of the governor’s continued engagement with traditional institutions and grassroots leadership in maintaining peace and order across the state.

Speaking at the commissioning of key road projects in Warri South Local Government Area on Wednesday, 4 June 2025, Governor Oborevwori emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government, traditional rulers, and security agencies in addressing security challenges. He reaffirmed that the state is working closely with law enforcement to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities, while urging the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behaviour or unfamiliar individuals to the authorities.

The scheduled meeting, which will bring together royal fathers and council leaders from the state’s 25 local government areas, is expected to focus on local intelligence sharing, coordination of security responses, and strengthening traditional institutions as stabilising forces during times of unrest.

In recent months, there has been an increase in kidnappings and protests in several parts of the state, including Abraka, Mosogar, Jesse, Obiaruku, and Ogwashi-Uku. Residents in these areas have called on the state government to take urgent action to address the growing wave of abductions and unrest.

Political tensions in the state have also escalated following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s proposed ward delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency. Addressing the situation, Governor Oborevwori issued a firm reminder to all stakeholders to avoid inflammatory utterances and stressed the need for mature engagement on all political matters.
