MultiChoice Loses 3.7 Million Subscribers
Africa’s premium television company, MultiChoice, has recorded a massive decline of 3.7 subscribers – from over 23 million to 19.3 million in 24 months.
This comes amid growing regulatory pressure, including charges by Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) over breach of regulations.
Warri Sentinel gathered most of the losses happened outside South Africa, with over 84% of the affected subscribers being DStv customers.

The company blamed economic challenges, especially in Nigeria, for the decline. MultiChoice explained that high inflation, which has stayed above 30% for much of the past year, and recent power disruptions in Zambia have put pressure on consumers.
In a recent annual financial report, MultiChoice confirmed that the tough economic conditions had led to both a drop in subscribers and slow revenue growth.@Weyinmi Ogholaja
