Bayelsa Governor Denies Pregnancy Claims with Reality TV Star
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media that he is responsible for the pregnancy of reality TV star, Nengi Hampson.
The speculation which gained widespread attention in recent days, suggested that Nengi who was appointed as Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development in 2020, was expecting a child with the governor.
It was also alleged that Governor Diri has four wives.
In response, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Samuel Oredipe, took to Facebook on Tuesday, February 11 to condemn the reports, describing them as “fake news” and accusing political opponents of spreading malicious lies.

Oredipe clarified that Nengi and the governor’s relationship is strictly professional, refuting any personal connection beyond her official appointment. He further accused those behind the rumours of attempting to undermine the governor’s image as his administration marked its fifth anniversary.
“Political enemies of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work again. What a wicked set of people spreading falsehood on a day the Prosperity Administration commenced activities marking its 5th anniversary. Oredipe wrote.
“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri and it is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are not happy with the towering political profile of the governor.”
The Governor’s spokesperson also pointed out the irony of the rumours circulating as the administration celebrated its achievements, including the inauguration of a new road in Yenagoa.
Meanwhile, Nengi Hampson has denied the rumours in a post on X, emphasising that she was not pregnant for any governor. The BBNaija reality TV star added that she felt compelled to address the issue due to its potential impact on those she cares about.
Both Diri’s office and Nengi have expressed commitment to moving past the false allegations and maintaining their focus on their respective public roles.
