No Room for Oppression or Disruption of Oil Production in Delta – Oborevwori
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has warned that his administration will not tolerate the oppression of host communities by oil companies, nor will it allow disruptions to oil production.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by Chevron Nigeria Limited management at the Government House in Asaba, on Tuesday, February 11, Oborevwori emphasized that oil revenue is vital to the state’s economy.
He noted that Delta is currently the country’s top oil producer, and any disruption would harm the state’s financial interests.
“l will not allow oil companies to oppress their host communities, neither will I allow the host communities to stop oil production. This is because, we derive most of our monies from oil production” he said.
The Governor also praised Chevron for its ongoing contributions to the state, acknowledging its social responsibility initiatives and urging the company to continue supporting host communities.

He recalled his longstanding relationship with Chevron, noting that the company’s presence in Warri had been a positive force despite challenges in the region.
Oborevwori also addressed community concerns, including issues around access to water and electricity, and stressed the importance of dialogue between Chevron and local leaders.
“Few days back, they took over your administrative office at Ekpan. You people know the role we played to intervene before they were able to pull out from the place.
“Sometimes, you listen to them, discuss with them. The things you know you can do for them, do them. The ones you cannot do, tell them you can’t do them. Tell them your limit.
He called on the company to offer more employment opportunities, particularly in senior management positions, for people from host communities.
Oborevwori encouraged investors to take advantage of Delta’s business-friendly environment, assuring them of the state’s safety and support for investment.
In response, Chevron’s Managing Director, Jim Swartz, thanked the state for its continued partnership, highlighting the company’s decades-long presence in Delta.
He reaffirmed Chevron’s commitment to improving the lives of local communities through various development projects, from healthcare to education and infrastructure.
