Ned Nwoko Officially Dumps PDP, Cites Divisions and Factionalism

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Nwoko, a founding member of the party since 1999, made the decision following growing internal divisions and factionalism within the party.

Nwoko in a letter addressed to the chairman of the PDP ward 8 in Aniocha North Local Government Area on Thursday, January 30, explained that these divisions had made it increasingly difficult to advance the collective interests of his constituents.

The senator pointed to an incident on 29th January 2025, when party officials were involved in a physical altercation. He described the situation as a result of irreconcilable factions, further deepening his concerns.

Despite his decision to leave, Senator Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him with the platform to run in the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, which allowed him to engage directly with the people of Delta North. He acknowledged the importance of the campaign in presenting his vision for a better future for the region.

However, Nwoko stated that the current structure of the party in the state had hindered his ability to deliver on the promises he made to his constituents during the campaign. He emphasised that after careful reflection, he believed resigning was necessary to effectively fulfill his obligations to the people.

In his farewell message, Nwoko assured PDP supporters and his constituents that he would remain committed to advancing the interests of Delta North and wished the party continued success in its future endeavors.

The implication of Nwoko’s defection means the state’s opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) controls all three Senatorial Districts in Delta State.
