Rotary Club Revamps Laboratories at Community School

The Rotary Club of Ubeji, District 9141, has completed a major renovation of the Biology and Physics laboratories at Ubeji Grammar School, Ubeji Community.

Rotarian Emmanuel Etsano,President Rotary Club of Ubeji, during a brief address at the commissioning, explained that the project was designed to strengthen the foundation of students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, as well as to inspire a greater interest in science. As part of the initiative, the club also launched an Interact Club at the school.

Etsano expressed gratitude to the project’s co-sponsor, Esijolomi Rewane Esq. who contributed ₦4.5 million and to the District Governor, who supported the venture with an additional ₦3 million.

Rotarian Chinedu Ikegwuani,District 9141 Governor, highlighted that the successful completion of the renovation was a reflection of the power of collaboration and teamwork in the club.

Esijolomi Rewane Esquire represented by Chief Eugene Ikomi during the event disclosed the project was “dear to his heart” hence his need to partner with the Club.

The school’s principal, Mrs. Betina Ogodo praised the Rotary Club for following through on its earlier commitment to renovate the laboratories, following the earlier completion of a Chemistry lab renovation in May 2024.

Ogodo urged the students to make the most of the “golden opportunity” and, in a plea requested that the Rotary Club consider renovating the Home Economics laboratory next.

Ugbejeh Onyemaeki, Chief Inspector of Education for Warri South, advised the students to handle the new equipment with care and to avoid any form of vandalism.

Mayomi Mone, Chairman of the Ubeji Community Trust, also commended the project, describing it as a gesture that should be emulated. He assured the community that steps would be taken to improve security around the school.

Teachers at the school expressed their excitement at the improvements, noting that the renovations would significantly enhance the learning environment for students.

Laju Okpogho, the newly inaugurated President of the school’s Interact Club, remarked that the previous state of the laboratories had been far from ideal, but that with the renovation, students were now more motivated to engage in their studies.

 

The commissioning event concluded with the installation of the new executives of the Interact Club of Ubeji Grammar School and a tour of the newly renovated facilities.
