10 Key Bills Signed into Law, Speaker Guwor Promises Progress
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has announced that over 10 major bills passed by the legislature in 2024 have received assent from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, reinforcing the state’s commitment to good governance.
Speaking at the resumption of plenary following the New Year break, Guwor stated key legislative achievements, including the passage of the 2025 Appropriation Law, the University of Science and Technology, Ozoro (Amendment) Law, 2024, and the Delta State Protection of Persons with Disability Law, 2024. He also revealed that five additional bills were assented to on the same day by Governor Oborevwori, showcasing the smooth cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.
He added that the bills are aimed at driving infrastructural development, enhancing social welfare, and improving governance across the state.
Guwor stressed the role of the legislature in overseeing the allocation and use of state funds, particularly with the 2025 Appropriation Bill for the funding of large-scale infrastructure projects and human capital development. The Speaker assured that the legislature would continue to work closely with the executive to ensure transparent and efficient implementation of state policies under the MORE Agenda an initiative designed to address the needs of the people in the areas of infrastructure, security, and welfare.
Looking ahead, the Speaker urged lawmakers to expedite action on pending bills, with a focus on concluding legislative work before the end of the second session in June 2025. He also took time to thank colleagues, staff, and the media for their support in achieving the House’s goals in 2024, calling for continued collaboration throughout the year.
