Oghenesivbe: Oborevwori Shields Delta Businesses from Collapse

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has been credited with saving thousands of small businesses from collapse amid Nigeria’s challenging economic climate.

Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director-General of the State’s Orientation and Communications Bureau, revealed that through targeted initiatives, the governor has helped over 250,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.

Oghenesivbe stated the role of the *D-CARES* programme, alongside the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Bureau for Wealth and Job Creation, in providing financial assistance to struggling entrepreneurs. The initiatives, which saw billions of Naira injected into the local economy, were designed to cushion the effects of national economic reforms on small businesses in Delta State.

“His interventions have helped stabilize the local economy and protect small businesses, saving many from closing their doors in the face of economic hardship,” Oghenesivbe said in a radio interview monitored in Asaba.

According to him, Governor Oborevwori has made strides in improving security in the state. The governor allocated funds for over 40 new Toyota Hilux vehicles, which were distributed to security agencies to enhance crime prevention and response efforts. The vehicles were formally commissioned by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Egbetokun, who also presented Oborevwori with a special award for his contributions to the state’s security sector.

Looking ahead, Oghenesivbe confirmed that Governor Oborevwori’s proposed 2025 budget of N979 billion would focus on expanding infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, and improving the state’s educational and sports facilities. The budget also includes provisions for large-scale projects aimed at improving urban and rural infrastructure, as well as boosting the state’s tourism and entertainment sectors.

Oghenesivbe added that the governor’s administration is overseeing the construction of key infrastructure, including flyovers, pedestrian bridges, and the dualization of major highways, all aimed at improving connectivity and boosting trade within and beyond the state.
