Delta LG Chairman Flags Off N50m Empowerment in Asaba
The Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area in Delta State, High Chief Kelvin Ezenyili, has officially launched a N50 million empowerment initiative aimed at supporting 500 individuals in his constituency. Each beneficiary will receive N100,000 as part of the program, which seeks to boost the economic well-being of local residents.
The flag-off ceremony took place on Monday in Asaba, where Ezenyili, popularly known as EKO, also announced the distribution of 220 bags of rice to the local government’s wards. Each ward will receive 20 bags of rice, further contributing to the welfare of the community.
Ezenyili, who also holds the title of Ikemba of Asaba, expressed his gratitude to the Oko community for their unwavering support of his administration. He acknowledged the community’s role as a major food basket for the region, noting that its predominantly farming population deserved to benefit from the dividends of democracy.
Addressing the gathering, Ezenyili shared his vision behind the empowerment initiative, stressing the importance of community-driven development and inclusive governance.
The event also saw the commissioning of the ultra-modern Oko Event Centre (EKO Project) in Oko community, which Ezenyili described as a symbol of infrastructural development and community progress.
Delta State’s First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, lauded the initiative, noting that such efforts would inspire further positive change in the region. She also urged the community to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance.
In recognition of his contributions to the development of Oko community, the Onihe of Oko land conferred the title of Ikemba of Oko Kingdom on Ezenyili. This follows a similar honour from the Azagba of Asaba, who had named him Ikemba of Ahaba Kingdom in recognition of his work in advancing Asaba and its surrounding areas.
