PDP Condemns Attack on Secretariat by Thugs Allegedly Loyal to Ibori-Suenu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has condemned the invasion of its secretariat in Oghara, Ethiope-West Local Government Area, by suspected thugs believed to be loyal to Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former governor James Ibori. Ibori-Suenu, who recently defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been accused of orchestrating the attack.

The party’s condemnation was made public in a statement signed by the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, on Sunday. The statement described the incident, which took place on Thursday, as an unlawful and provocative act. According to the PDP, the thugs, allegedly acting on the orders of Ibori-Suenu, took control of the party’s building and repainted it with APC colours.

The PDP stated that this was part of a series of attempts by Ibori-Suenu, since her defection to the APC, to appropriate the PDP’s structures and assets for her new party. “This provocative and disgraceful action shows that her defection was poorly planned and driven by personal ambition rather than any genuine political ideology,” the statement read.

The party further accused Ibori-Suenu of attempting to use the PDP’s established infrastructure to bolster the credibility of her new party, rather than building her own political identity. “This act of theft, conducted in broad daylight, is an affront to the principles of democracy and political decency,” the PDP added.

While condemning the act, the PDP urged its members and supporters to remain calm and peaceful.

He also called on Ibori-Suenu and her APC collaborators to stop attempting to gain political relevance by riding on the PDP’s hard-earned reputation. Okorodudu added that if the APC  genuinely believe in its party’s vision, it should focus on building its own identity rather than relying on the PDP’s structures and legacy.

The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to peace and the rule of law and called on the security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
