Warri South Council Moves to Enforce Life Jacket Use in Waterways
The Legislative Arm of the Warri South Local Government Council in Delta State is preparing to deliberate on several reform-focused bills, including proposals on compulsory life jacket use and the regulation of building standards within the council area.
The Clerk of the Legislative Arm, Godfrey Maku, said the proposed bills align with the constitutional duties of local governments as outlined in Section 7(1) and the Fourth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
Among the bills to be considered is an Executive Bill seeking to enforce the mandatory use of life jackets on waterways in Warri South. Lawmakers will also review a proposal for the establishment of the Warri South Rainbow Economic Hub.
Other proposed legislations include a framework to regulate construction and building activities, as well as a bill aimed at creating and managing Freedom Squares across the local government.
The council said stakeholders would be involved in the legislative process to encourage inclusive governance and public participation. The session, expected to commence by 10am, will be presided over by the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Joy Ejumudo.
