Polobubo Laments Neglect in Delta’s ₦400bn Projects
Leaders and residents of Polobubo (Tsekelewu) and surrounding bloc communities in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State have raised concerns over their absence from the list of infrastructure projects recently approved by the state government. In a statement released Monday, the President of Polobubo (Tsekelewu) Bloc Communities, Paul Toruwei, alongside Aboh Youth Leader, Comrade Markson Juwoiye, voiced dissatisfaction that the oil-producing region was left out of projects valued at more than ₦400 billion.
The communities acknowledged the state government’s drive to expand infrastructure across Delta but stressed that leaving out Polobubo (Tsekelewu) casts doubt on the principles of fairness, equity, and balanced development. They pointed out that the area hosts major oil firms such as Chevron, NPDC, Sahara Energy, and Conoil, whose operations contribute heavily to the state’s petroleum production.
The statement noted that the axis generates over 20 percent of Delta State’s oil output, yet local residents continue to grapple with poor infrastructure, limited access routes, and little visible government presence. Community leaders argued that despite the economic value their land provides, development within the area has remained minimal for decades.
Calling for urgent reconsideration, the bloc communities urged the state government to revise the project approvals to include the Trans-Egbema Road linking Ogbudugbudu/Ogbinbiri to Polobubo, as well as the Polobubo internal road network previously approved during the administration of former governor Ifeanyi Okowa. They emphasized that their people have remained peaceful and law-abiding while expecting policies that reflect justice, fairness, and inclusive growth.
