Agbarho Community Seeks Govt Help as 260 Pupils Share Classrooms

Community members in Oviri-Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have called on the state and local governments to urgently intervene in the infrastructural challenges facing Isherhe Primary School, where about 260 pupils are forced to learn in overcrowded and dilapidated classrooms.

The school, founded in 1929, currently has only three usable classrooms and a partially damaged block, leaving pupils crammed together during lessons. Some pupils sit on bare floors while others share broken desks, raising concerns about the learning conditions for both pupils and teachers.

Although renovation of one classroom block facilitated by the Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Onoriode Agofure, is ongoing, another block comprising four classrooms and two offices supported by NEXIM Bank’s Stella Okotete is also nearing completion.

Despite these efforts, residents say several other sections of the school remain in poor condition and require urgent attention. They urged the Delta State Government and the Ughelli North Local Government Council to step in and complete the remaining parts of the school to provide a safer and more conducive learning environment.
