Tinubu Names Reno Omokri, Fani-Kayode, Jimoh Ibrahim as Ambassadors
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions across the world and the United Nations.
The appointments include 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats whose nominations were confirmed by the Senate in December. Among the non-career envoys are former Cross River senator Grace Bent assigned to Togo, former presidential aide Ita Enang posted to South Africa, and former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose ally Reno Omokri deployed to Mexico.
Other prominent names include former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau who will head Nigeria’s mission to China, former Health Minister Isaac Folorunso Adewole posted to Canada, and businessman Jimoh Ibrahim appointed as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun seeking the required diplomatic approvals from host countries. The president has also directed the ministry to immediately organise an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners.
