Omo-Agege, Ned Nwoko, Ibori-Suenu Snub Delta APC Congress

Fresh cracks have surfaced within the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress after several high-profile figures failed to attend the party’s State Congress in Asaba. Those absent included former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko, and House of Representatives member Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu. Their absence has fueled speculation about widening divisions within the party.

Party insiders point to a growing power struggle in Delta State, with factions reportedly split between loyalists of the Ibori/Omo-Agege bloc and supporters of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. In Delta North, the rift is said to pit allies of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa against those aligned with Senator Nwoko. Allegations of candidate imposition during ward, local government and state congresses are believed to have intensified the dispute.

Despite the tensions, Governor Oborevwori called for cohesion and urged members to rally behind the party’s leadership. He praised the outgoing executive led by Omeni Sobotie and emphasized the need for stronger grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections. The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to delivering the state for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates.

Meanwhile, former Delta PDP Chairman Solomon Arenyeka emerged as the new APC State Chairman by consensus. Other appointments were confirmed at the congress, including Emmanuel Egbabor as State Organising Secretary and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie as State Woman Leader, as the party moves to consolidate its structure amid internal strains.
