President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, as the new Minister of State for Finance. The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Oyedele’s nomination, which has been forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, will see him replace Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been reassigned as Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, marking her third portfolio in the administration.

Oyedele, a 50-year-old economist and public policy expert from Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, has played a pivotal role in overhauling Nigeria’s tax system through his work with the presidential committee. He brings extensive academic and professional credentials to the proposed role, including a Higher National Diploma in accountancy from Yaba College of Technology, a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University, and executive education from prestigious institutions such as the London School of Economics, Yale, and Harvard Kennedy School.

With over two decades of experience at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, Oyedele also serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School. His nomination underscores the administration’s focus on leveraging technical expertise to drive fiscal reforms and economic planning.
