FAAN Bans Cash at Nigerian Airports From Feb 29

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will end all cash transactions across airports nationwide by February 29, 2026. The move forms part of the Federal Government’s wider push to enforce a cashless policy across public institutions.

The directive was conveyed in a memorandum dated February 3, 2026, signed by FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku. It follows a decision of the Federal Executive Council mandating Ministries, Departments and Agencies to discontinue cash dealings and adopt fully electronic payment systems.

According to the memo, FAAN must strictly comply with the government’s cashless policy, stressing that all financial and business transactions conducted in the course of its official duties are to be processed electronically. The authority made it clear that every form of cash collection tied to its operations must cease before the deadline.

The development reinforces earlier reforms, including the introduction of Operation Go Cashless, an initiative aimed at modernising airport payment systems, boosting transparency, improving efficiency and safeguarding revenue across FAAN-managed facilities.
