12 Inmates Escape Correctional Centre in Kogi

Twelve inmates have escaped from the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, during a jailbreak on Monday morning.

Kogi State Information Commissioner Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the escape, calling it “unfortunate” and assured the public that authorities are acting swiftly to prevent future incidents. One escapee has been re-arrested, and efforts to capture the others are ongoing.

Fanwo expressed concerns over how the inmates managed to escape from the tower without causing damage, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Governor Usman Ododo has ordered heightened security at correctional facilities statewide.

Fanwo urged the public to report suspicious activity, warning that anyone sheltering an escapee will face legal consequences. He reassured residents, saying there is no cause for panic and public safety remains a priority.
