FG Orders Probe into Alleged Criminal Activities at Okere Prison
The Federal Government has launched an immediate and thorough investigation into allegations of criminal activity at the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri, Delta State, following recent media reports.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the probe in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Babatunde Alao, on Tuesday, February 4, in Abuja.
Warri Sentinel had earlier reported how some inmates at the facility were linked to an armed robbery in Benin City, Edo State.

Minister Tunji-Ojo condemned the alleged actions, describing them as “reprehensible” and reiterated that any misconduct within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) would be met with strict punishment.
“I will not tolerate indiscipline. Any officer found guilty will face the full force of the law,” Tunji-Ojo said, adding that NCoS leadership would be required to provide a full explanation.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability within the correctional system.
“We take these allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our facilities,” he stressed.
Tunji-Ojo also urged the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the ongoing investigation.
