What URS Said to Olu of Warri, Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo, Ovie of Agbarha And the Amakosu of Ogbe-Ijoh
To douse rising ethnic tensions in Warri, Delta state, the Urhobo Renaissance Society (URS) has appealed to the Olu of Warri, HM Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo, HRM Owhotemu II, Ovie of Agbarha Kingdom, HRM Igbi II and Amakosu of Ogbe-Ijoh, HRM Monbene III to convene a peace meeting.
In a statement, the URS advised the Orodje of Okpe, HRM Orhue I, who is chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, to mediate the proposed peace talks and “institute lasting peace for development,” the group said.
URS President, Prof. Joseph Abugu (SAN) and Secretary-General, Dr. John Uwa, who signed the statement warned against a repeat of the violent clashes of the late 1990s that displaced thousands.
They stressed that “building bridges and fostering inter-ethnic unity is the primary responsibility of our traditional rulers.
