Warri Kingdom to Confer Ambassage Chieftaincy Titles to Boost Inter-Ethnic Harmony
Five prominent non-Itsekiri indigenes have been appointed as Ambassage Chiefs in Warri Kingdom in a move aimed at strengthening inter-ethnic harmony, peaceful coexistence and cooperation among the diverse ethnic groups within the kingdom.
The announcement was made by the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, who approved the conferment of Ambassage Chieftaincy titles on Anthony Akoji of Igala extraction, Ezekiel Oyetakin from Ilaje, Oluwasoji Akinwale of Yoruba origin, Okwudili Ugochukwu, and Stephen Amalili from the Igbo and Igbo Diaspora communities.
The chieftaincy installation is scheduled to take place on Saturday at the palace of the Olu of Warri in Ajamimogha, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
A proclamation issued on December 12, 2025, stated that the Ambassage Chiefs are expected to serve as links between their respective ethnic nationalities and the Itsekiri people, with responsibilities centered on promoting mutual understanding, cooperation and accountability.
The proclamation explained that the appointments followed nominations by the various ethnic groups, endorsements by the nominees’ home traditional rulers, and final approval by the Olu of Warri.
It further clarified that Ambassage Chiefs act as representatives of their ethnic nationalities within Warri Kingdom and are not Chiefs of Warri Kingdom. They will operate under the authority of the Olu of Warri, engage with senior Warri chiefs when necessary, participate in public events and festivities, and remain accountable to both the Olu of Warri and their home traditional rulers.
Under the order of precedence, the Ambassage Chiefs rank after the Chiefs of Warri Kingdom. Their tenure remains at the discretion of the Olu of Warri and may end through recall by their home traditional rulers, voluntary resignation, or loss of confidence from their respective communities.
