Warri Court Arraigns Two Over Alleged Illegal Levy Demand

A Magistrate Court in Warri, Delta State, has arraigned Irikefe Ajueyitsi and Abubakar Nasiru over the alleged demand for an unlawful levy, popularly known as “deve,” from a property developer, Pastor Fred Aghedo.

The defendants were brought before Chief Magistrate E. M. Sowho on allegations that they, alongside others still at large, made the demand on March 12 at 3rd Marine Quarter Road, an act said to have triggered a breach of peace in the area.

During proceedings, police prosecutor, Dicko Wakama, told the court that the charges are in violation of the Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection Law, 2018, and relevant provisions of the Criminal Code.

Both accused persons entered not guilty pleas.

Following their pleas, the court admitted them to bail and fixed May 20, 2026, for the continuation of the case, as authorities sustain a broader clampdown on illegal levies and extortion linked to property development in Delta State.
