Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Urhobo bloc in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, have protested against their exclusion from the party’s recent local government executive congresses. In a letter to the Delta State APC Chairman, leaders under the aegis of the Warri Urhobo APC leadership expressed dissatisfaction over what they termed a lack of transparency and consultation in the process that produced the new local government leadership.
The protest letter, signed by prominent stakeholders including Olorogun Bernard Okumagba and Chief Benson Obire, alleged that the Urhobo bloc was deliberately sidelined from key decisions despite its significant contributions to strengthening the party’s grassroots structure. The leaders warned that this marginalization contradicts the party’s principles of internal democracy and inclusiveness, and could weaken party unity and harm electoral prospects in the area.
The aggrieved leaders called on the state APC leadership to urgently intervene and ensure a more inclusive and consultative approach that guarantees fair representation for all blocs. They insisted that only concrete corrective measures, not mere assurances, would resolve the brewing tension and restore confidence among party members.
Meanwhile, party sources indicate that moves are underway by some elders and stakeholders to mediate and prevent a full-blown crisis. However, the Urhobo bloc maintained that their grievances must be addressed through transparent and equitable actions to safeguard the party’s cohesion and grassroots strength in Warri South.
