Udu Monarch Disburses ₦14.7 Million to Scholars Across the Kingdom
His Royal Majesty, Okporua I, the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, has taken a significant step toward advancing education and human capital development by disbursing ₦14.7 million in scholarships to students across the kingdom. The initiative targets beneficiaries from the seven ruling houses in Udu Kingdom and reflects the monarch’s sustained commitment to academic excellence, youth empowerment, and inclusive development.
The scholarship package was carefully structured to support students at different educational levels. In the Junior Secondary School (JSS) category, six students from each ruling house received ₦50,000 each, totaling ₦2.1 million. For Senior Secondary School (SSS) students, six beneficiaries per ruling house were awarded ₦100,000 each, amounting to ₦4.2 million. Tertiary institution students received the largest allocation, with four beneficiaries from each ruling house granted ₦300,000 each, summing up to ₦8.4 million.

Addressing beneficiaries, parents, and community leaders during the presentation, HRM Okporua I emphasized that education remains the most reliable pathway to personal and societal transformation. He urged the students to remain disciplined, focused, and determined to succeed, noting that the investment in their education is an investment in the future of Udu Kingdom. The monarch also stressed the need for continuous collaboration between traditional institutions, government, and stakeholders to improve access to quality education.
Community leaders present at the event commended the initiative, calling it visionary and impactful. They noted that the scholarship programme would ease the financial burden on families and inspire a culture of academic seriousness among the youth. Beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation to the monarch, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in them through hard work and outstanding performance, while parents lauded the gesture as essential amid the rising cost of education.
