Two Dead in Suspected Cholera Outbreak in Bobi Community, Delta

A suspected cholera outbreak has claimed two lives in the Bobi Community, located in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State. The first fatality, a 70-year-old man identified as Mr. John Okusanren, passed away on Friday, January 17, after suddenly falling ill with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea.

Reports suggest that the second victim also died under similar conditions, though their identity has not yet been officially disclosed. The outbreak was initially reported last Wednesday, when the first death occurred, and several other residents showing symptoms of cholera were promptly transported to medical facilities in Warri for treatment.

Concerns are mounting about the potential for the disease to spread further, particularly to other riverine communities such as Burutu in Burutu Local Government Area, unless immediate containment measures are implemented. Cholera is a highly contagious disease caused by contaminated food or water, leading to severe dehydration, and it can be fatal if not treated quickly.

While the Delta State Ministry of Health has yet to issue an official statement, efforts to contain the outbreak are reportedly ongoing. Health teams are closely monitoring the situation, and local leaders are urging the public to remain vigilant as the region works to prevent further spread.
