Two Dead as Traders Clash in Effurun
Two people have been killed following a violent clash between Igbo and Hausa traders on Refinery Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. The confrontation, which began as a minor disagreement, quickly escalated into a deadly fight that plunged the busy commercial area into chaos.
Witnesses said two Igbo traders were stabbed during the violence and died before help arrived. Soldiers on patrol intervened and arrested some suspects, moving them to an undisclosed location. However, the incident provoked outrage among Igbo traders, who blocked parts of the road and attacked Hausa tricycle riders.
Shops were shut and residents fled as panic spread across the community. Vehicular movement was disrupted for hours until reinforcements of soldiers and police officers arrived to restore order. Security patrols have since been intensified to prevent further clashes.
Police have yet to issue an official statement, but sources close to the Delta State Police Command confirmed that investigations are underway.
