Tinubu’s 2025 Budget Could Threaten His 2027 Reelection -Enang Warns

Senator Ita Enang has raised serious concerns over the proposed 2025 budget, warning that its allocations to key sectors are insufficient and could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term in 2027.

Appearing on in a television interview, Enang, who served in the 7th National Assembly, stated that the budget—totaling ₦49.7 trillion—does not adequately fund critical areas needed for national development. He argued that with these low allocations, the government will struggle to complete projects that could serve as major milestones for Tinubu’s reelection campaign.

“I have reviewed the budget and gone through nearly all sectors. It’s clear that this budget is not reflective of what is required to give the president projects to commission by 2026,” Enang said. “By the end of 2025, the president should be in a position to commission key projects, but with this budget, there’s a serious risk that many will remain unfinished.”

Enang’s comments come after Tinubu presented the proposed budget to the National Assembly in December 2024. Lawmakers are set to reconvene on February 4, 2025, to continue deliberating on the budget. Enang’s criticisms noted the challenges the president faces in delivering on key promises, particularly in the run-up to the 2027 election.

The senator also advised the president’s team to prioritize critical projects with clear timelines before finalizing the budget.

As the budget debate intensifies, questions remain about whether adjustments will be made to ensure that Tinubu has the achievements to present to the electorate in 2026 and beyond.
