Tinubu Cuts Cost of Governance, Slashes Ministers’ Convoys, Others
President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive limiting the number of vehicles and security personnel assigned to ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies. Under the new measures, these officials are restricted to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys, with no additional vehicles permitted.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized his commitment to reducing government spending. This directive follows earlier cost-cutting measures introduced in January, when the President reduced his foreign entourage from 50 to 20 officials and limited domestic delegations to 25. The Vice President’s entourages were also cut, with only five officials allowed on international trips and 15 on local visits.
The President’s directive extends to security arrangements, restricting each top official to a maximum of five security personnel. This team will include four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer, with no extra security personnel to be provided.
President Tinubu has also tasked the National Security Adviser with coordinating the Military, Paramilitary, and other Security Agencies to identify ways to similarly scale down vehicle and personnel deployment in line with this directive.
All officials are expected to implement these changes immediately, underscoring President Tinubu’s commitment to curbing excess government spending.
