Seun Kuti’s MOP, Obedients Among 110 Seeking Political Party Status
As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections, many new political groups are forming to take part in the country’s politics.
The comes as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that about 110 political associations have applied for registration as political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced the figure during a press briefing in Abuja. Among the notable applicants are the Movement of the People (MOP), revived by Seun Kuti, son of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti; the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) led by Akin Ricketts; and the Obedient Peoples Party under Avotu Johnson.
