Sapele Residents Plan Protest Over Abandoned Roads
Residents of Gana and Ugberikoko in Sapele, Delta State, have fixed December 8, 2025, for a peaceful protest over failed road-repair promises by Seplat Energy and the Sapele Local Government Council.
Earlier in the year, both the company and the council agreed at a stakeholders’ meeting to start fixing the damaged roads in November, but no work has started. This, residents say, is the reason for the planned demonstration.
The roads, which serve as major routes for daily activities, have become almost unusable. A recent attempt by the local government chairman, Hon. Bright Abeke, to fill some portions with stones was rejected by the community, who insist it does not solve the main problem.
Organisers say the police and relevant authorities have been notified. They want full reconstruction of the roads and a long-term repair plan that will prevent further deterioration.
