Protesters Storm National Assembly Over Electoral Act Amendment

Protesters on Monday gathered at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, demanding clarity on the amendment of the Electoral Act, particularly the issue of electronic transmission of election results.

The demonstration followed reports that the Senate rejected a clause mandating real-time electronic transmission. Protesters insisted that the law must clearly compel such transmission to safeguard electoral credibility.

Security agencies, including the police, army and civil defence corps, were deployed to maintain order as the protest continued peacefully.

The protest added pressure on lawmakers already facing public criticism over the amendment process.
