Police Renovates Sapele Divisional Police Headquarters
The Delta State Police Command has taken another step toward improving security and community trust with the commissioning of the newly renovated Sapele Divisional Headquarters.
The facility was officially opened on Saturday, September 27, 2025, by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.
The renovation, which comes as part of ongoing reforms in the command, is seen as a major investment in police infrastructure.
It follows recent measures by the state police command to boost morale, including the disbursement of ₦37.6 million to families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
At the event, CP Abaniwonda praised the commitment of officers serving in Sapele and surrounding areas, noting that modern, well-equipped stations are vital to efficient policing.
He said the new-look divisional headquarters will enhance operations, improve working conditions, and build public confidence in the police force.
The initiative has been credited largely to the efforts of CSP Johnbull Obioguru, the Divisional Police Officer for Sapele. His leadership has brought about several improvements, including the creation of a new police post and community-friendly policing strategies.
Advocacy groups like the Whistleblower Initiative have commended his approach, pointing out that modern facilities and closer ties with communities often lead to lower crime rates. Research published in the Journal of Criminal Justice in 2023 also supports this, showing that upgraded stations can cut crime levels by up to 15 percent.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by community leaders, residents, and police officials.
With the Sapele Divisional Headquarters now modernized, security stakeholders say the project marks a turning point in police-community relations in Delta State.
